Apply Now! Ophthalmology and Optometry Training Opportunity for Developing Countries

In 2022, He Eye Specialist Hospital from China organized an online training course for ophthalmologists from the Belt and Road countries (2022 course: https://www.hsyk.com.cn/newsletter/v29/en-news-02.html). This year, we are delighted to open a new onsite training course in Shenyang city, China and to provide sponsorship to eligible candidates.

Brief of the Organizer

He Eye Specialist Hospital(HESH) is a comprehensive eye care provider in China integrating with medical service, education, research and development. As the only National Training Center for the Prevention and Control of Blindness in China and the IOFF(International Ophthalmologic Fellowship Foundation) Fellow Host, HESH has trained more than 50,000 people in ophthalmology, optometry and public eye health. HESH has held 5 China-Africa Eye Health Development Forums from 2018, which established long-term cooperative relations with health departments of many African countries and regions. Brief of the Training Course

This year's training course will start from August 30 to September 19, lasting for 21 days. The following content will be delivered: Overview and Future Trend of Global Blindness, Application and Prospects of Digital Health in Eye Care, Training System for Blindness Prevention in China, New Progress in Common Eye Diseases, Management Mode of Vision Center in China, Application and Prospect of AI-based Equipment in Developing Countries, etc. Participants will also be invited to attend Conference of Chinese Ophthalmological Society 2024 (CCOS 2024) to have a deeper understanding of the current development status of ophthalmic technology and products in China.

Through attending this training course, participants are expected to learn from the experience of eye health development in China and other developing countries. After graduation, participants are expected to be able to propose development suggestions for the prevention and treatment of blindness for their own countries.

Scholarship Package

This year, HESH will offer 25 scholarship seats. Financial assistance to support participants to attend the training including: tuition fee, two-way airfare directly from the participant's country to/from China, accommodate in China, transportation in China. Additional support (including technical support, equipment and consumables) will be offered to graduates with honors.

Application Requirements

1. From the following countries ONLY:

Asia & Western Pacific: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Cook Islands, Fiji, Kazakhstan, Laos People's Democratic Republic, India, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Pakistan, Philippines, Tajikistan, Thailand, Uzbekistan, Vietnam.

Africa: Benin, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African, Comoros, Cote d'Ivoire, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau,Mauritania, Mauritius, Mozambique, Nigeria, Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, South Africa, South Sudan, The Democratic Republic of Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia.

Europe: Albania, Armenia, Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova, North Macedonia, Romania, Turkey.

Middle East: Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon, Oman, Syria, Saudi Arabia, Tunisia.

Latin America: Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican, Jamaica, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Suriname, Uruguay, Trinidad and Tobago.

2. Age: Under 50 for clinical experts in ophthalmology or optometry. Under 60 for management personnel working in health facilities, universities, NGOs and government departments.

3. Academic background: Master Degree (or above) in Ophthalmology/ Optometry/ Nursing/ Public Health.

4. Current working place: hospitals, vision centers, government health departments, NGOs for eye health programs, and other places in eye health.

5. Language requirements: fluent in English.

6. Health condition: in good health with health certificate issued by the local public hospitals; without diseases with which entry to China is disallowed by China's laws and regulations; without severe chronic diseases such as serious high blood pressure, cardiovascular/cerebrovascular diseases and diabetes; without metal diseases or epidemic diseases that are likely to cause serious threat to public health; not in the process of recovering after a major operation or in the process of acute diseases; not seriously disabled or pregnant.

7. Financial condition: for applying a visa to China, please refer to the financial requirements from the Embassy of the People's Republic of China to your country.
