Inauguration Ceremony of New Campus of He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
On October 20, 2007, the Inauguration Ceremony of New Campus of He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences was celebrated in Shenyang China.
In 1999, He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Science, which is the first college of optometry and ophthalmology in northeastern China was established jointly by He Eye Hospital and Shenyang Medical College. In March 2004, He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Science was ratified by Ministry of Education, China to become an independent college. It is also a comprehensive life-science college which aims at nurturing international, professional talents in ophthalmology, optometry and related sciences.
The overall area of the new campus of He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences is 540,000 square meters, with 140,000 square meters is used for infrastructure construction in Phase One. The number of total staff is 106 and that of registered students is 1100. The teachers and students will study and live in the new campus from the new semester in September, 2007.
The new campus is based on the concept of energy-saving and eco-friendly. The new campus is the embodiment of the very latest ideas of modern, user-friendly, intelligent and e-teaching. The design greatly improves the college’s function and operation, promotes innovative education, management and serving system, accelerates the process of He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences becoming a famous university worldwide.
So far He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences provides bachelor degree education on four departments: clinical medicine, optometry, nursing and medical imaging. The enrollment covers 10 provinces of China including Liaoning, Hei Longjiang, Tianjin, Inner Mongolia, Shanxi, Shanxi, Hubei, Yunnan, Shandong, and Hebei. The new campus are equipped by state of art facilities and modern education techniques. There are laboratories for ophthalmology, contact lenses, optometry, glass making technology, microsurgery, computer, medical morphology, nursing and comprehensive chemistry. The college also provides shuttles to the city center.
The research site is Shenyang Green Valley Bio-tech Industry Co.,Ltd. which applies international biology techniques to engage in gene diagnosis of eye diseases, research and development of surgery accretion, medicine and cosmetics. Parts of the research achievements applied for patents and fill in gap to settle strong foundation for future biomedicine.
He College of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences pays great attention to practical ability and makes every effort to nurture practical talents. As the experiment base, Shenyang He Eye Hospital, Dalian He Eye Hospital, HuLudao He Eye Hospital, Panjing He Eye Hospital and 39 optometry outpatient departments all together provide teaching-support practice. Perfect conditions for the development of experience teaching, practice teaching, practice before graduation and other social practices. The professional management, the outstanding team of clinical experts, the advanced equipments and the digital diagnosis system make the students grasp the professional skill and put the theory into practice. In addition, He Eye Museum being prepared is the only ophthalmology museum in China.
