He Eye Hospital，Shenyang organized Ministry of Health and NGO Blindness Prevention and Treatment Coordination Meeting

2008 Ministry of Health (MoH) and NGO Blindness Prevention and Treatment Coordination Meeting, sponsored by MoH and organized by ORBIS International and He Eye Hospital, Shenyang, was held on April 9 to 10, 2008 in Liaoning Zhengxie Hotel, Shenyang.

The 40 representatives participated the meeting. They are from MOH, 5 Provincial Health Bureaus, IAPB, all NGOs currently developing blindness prevention and treatment in China, China Disabled Persons’ Federation, Chinese Ophthalmological Society, Chinese Association of Ophthalmologists, National Guiding Committee for Blindness Prevention, He Eye Care System and corporations. They discussed issues related to coordination and cooperation in blindness prevention and treatment in China.

The first issue discussed was blindness prevention and treatment activities since Plan for National Blindness Prevention and Treatment (2006~2010) was issued. Followed by NGOs discussion on the activities and effectiveness of blindness prevention and treatment and future plans for implementing the Plan for National Blindness Prevention and Treatment (2006~2010).

The meeting aims at carrying out the Plan for National Blindness Prevention and Treatment (2006~2010), strengthening the coordination and communication between governments and INGOs for blindness prevention and treatment, and making more efficient and effective approaches. At the meeting, Dr. He Wei, the founder and chairman of He Eye Care System, was appointed as Co-Chair for IAPB in the Western Pacific Region.
