Introduction of the Meeting

The 1ST Joint Meeting of Chinese-Japanese-Korean Ophthalmologists, jointly together with the 100th Korean Ophthalmological Society Annual Meeting will be held for two days on November 1, 2008 in Korea International Exhibition Center (KINTEX), Ilsan. The idea of establishing the Joint Meeting of Chinese-Japanese-Korean Ophthalmologists was initiated together by Prof. Jialiang Zhao (China), Prof. Ishibashi (Japan), Prof. Kyung Hwan Shyn (Korea) and Dr. Wei He (China) in 2007.

Purpose of the Meeting

“The rapid development of global economic interdependence is not only releasing enormous energy for growth but also promoting the common development of countries at different levels.”(WTO, 1996). The ophthalmologists are unavoidably involved in the phenomenon of globalization. The meeting in turn aims at establishing a communicative platform which could enable ophthalmologists from China, Japan and Korea, especially young ophthalmologists to conduct academic exchanges, and which could also enhance the friendship amongst the three participating countries.

Venue

The meeting will be held in KINTEX (www.kintex.com/chinese/main.jsp), Ilsan. KINTEX is located at the foot of Bukhan Mountain in Ilsan, which is one of Korea’s five most famous mountains. The highest mountains are Baiyun Tai, Rengshou Mountain and Wanjing Mountain. They are also called “Triangle Mountain” in which there are many cultural relics, such as Hongguo Temple, Taigu Temple, etc.

KINTEX serves as an arena for business discussion, exchange and provides meetings between people from all over the world in a refined and comfortable atmosphere. It is surrounded by about fifty hotels at different star levels that offer participants wide arrange of choices for accommodation.

Two of the above subspecialties will be discussed in this meeting.

All individuals who aim at contributing to eye disease and blindness prevention are sincerely welcomed to attend the meeting. Currently, up to 200 ophthalmologists have registered. English and Korean will be spontaneously used during the meeting.
