
In order to strengthen the clinical capacity of Pyongyang Lions Eye Hospital in North Korea to better serve the local patients, He Eye Hospital provided surgical training for 5 surgeons from Pyongyang Lions Eye Hospital during the period of June 13- September 25, 2007. The training program is a big success.
This training program was jointly organized by Korea Lions State Council and China Council of Lions Clubs. The trainees were supported by Korea Lions State Council. He Eye Hospital was appointed to provide clinical training for the 5 trainees. Among the five, two of them were trained for cataract surgery for 3.5 months, two trainees were trained for retinal surgery for 3.5 months, and one trainee was trained first for OT management for 1 month and then retinal surgery for 2.5 months.
All the trainees are very satisfied with their training outcome. The training covered lectures, wet lab, case discussion, OPD practice, and surgery training. After 3.5-month training, they all are able to independently perform basic surgery of cataract and retina, which will enable them to handle surgery by themselves when they return Pyongyang Lions Eye Hospital.
In order to further improve their surgical technique, the trainees applied that He Eye Hospital sending a medical team to go to Pyongyang, North Korea to provide follow-up training for them.
