On February 9, Liu Xiwang, a child with congenital cataract from Xiuyan County, received free surgery in He Eye Hospital, Shenyang. Now he is in good condition after the operation.
“Liu Xiwang” was named by his father as his wife was pregnant, because his wife’s family had congenital cataract genes, and their eldest son Liu Jiaxun unfortunately inherited the eye disease from his mother, he hoped that their youngest son could escape the same fate, however, Liu Xiwang was diagnosed with congenital cataract shortly after birth, which casted a shadow over the poor family.
As Liu Xiwang also suffered from amblyopia and nystagmus, the required lens must be foldable. Ten thousands of cost of treatment discouraged the family with an annual income of less than 3000 yuan. After understand their situation, Liaoning Vision Care Foundation joined with He Eye Hospital funded his surgery in full.
The medical director of He Eye Hospital, Qin Nan performed the surgery for Liu Xiwang. Director Qin said the child was in a very serious condition, if further delayed, there may be a danger of blindness. In order to ensure the success of operation, He Eye Hospital developed a detailed treatment and nursing plan, nurses specially bought flowers and toys for him in the hope of reducing his tension and fears for surgery. However, as he entered the operating room, he was still crying and kicking, and refused on the operating table. After a general anesthesia by an experienced anesthetist for him, the surgery was finally done in an intense and orderly manner.
Before that, He Eye Hospital also performed free posterior capsule opacification surgery for Liu Jiaxun, and actively contacted with school to get the 12-year-old boy admitted early.
