1.Glaucoma Project- Glaucoma Awareness Education in Shenyang.

Project duration: April 1, 2004 to September 30, 2005 Set up ORBIS-He Eye Hospital Glaucoma Prevention and Treatment Center. May 15, 2004, ORBIS-He Eye Hospital Glaucoma Prevention and Treatment Center was launched which aimed to raise the public awareness of glaucoma as a disease and of the importance of treating it at an early stage by providing free training to grass-roots doctors and free glaucoma screening camps.

2.Seeing is Believing- Cataract project in Shenyang

Project duration: September 1, 2004 to February 28, 2006 Project Activities: cataract screening and surgery, PHACO surgical training.

3.Flying Eye Hospital- Shenyang Project

Flying Eye Hospital- Shenyang Project was successfully implemented in He Eye Hospital from September 12-25, 2004. Nearly 100 grass-roots doctors from the three northeastern provinces and Inner Mongolia were trained, 200 patients received free examination as well as 50 patients accepted free surgeries, and 100 patients accepted low-pay surgeries through this project.

5.Center of Excellence (CoE) Project

Project duration: April 1, 2008 to March 31, 2011
Project Activities: The Center of Excellence (CoE) Project, The purpose of this project is to support the He Eye Hospital in Shenyang to become a Center of Excellence (CoE) for eye care for the northeast part of China, and the first one in the whole country. This project will support sub-specialty training, training equipment for the optometry section and for the wet-lab in He College, as well as funds for primary eye care training for village-level health workers.

6.VISION 2020 Projects

1) ORBIS International and He Eye Hospital co-hosted the 2nd NGOs Coordination Meeting in Shenyang in March 2006.

3) With the support from ORBIS, Shenyang He Eye Hospital organized “Ministry of Health and NGO Blindness Prevention and Treatment Coordination Meeting” in April, 2008 in Shenyang.


7.Seeing is Believing IV- Pediatric Project with Dalian He Eye Hospital

This three-year project planned to launch in July, 2009. By the end of the project, a fully equipped, child friendly pediatric eye care centre will be established at Dalian He Eye Hospital (HEH).

A network between Dalian HEH and county hospitals, Maternal and Children’s Health (MCH) hospitals and healthcare stations will be established for treatment and referral of pediatric eye care cases in Dalian City and surrounding areas.
